Passions about Hrytsenko: who is funding his presidential campaign and why

Who is behind the promotion of the leader of the “Civil Position” party Anatoliy Hrytsenko as the candidate to Presidency, whose project he is and who will benefit from his defeat?

Currently, there are several versions in media concerning the possible source of financing of the “Civil Position” party of Anatoliy Hrytsenko who is obviously heavily supported in his campaign to become the President of Ukraine.

A year ago, the sociological group “The Rating” published the results of the poll to determine the level of trust of Ukrainians to different politicians. Anatoliy Hrytsenko scored 30%, a rating of trust higher than that of Yulia Tymoshenko and Andrei Sadovoi.

This April the social research center SOCIS stated 8.2% of the potential public support of Hrytsenko in the upcoming presidential election. A few months later, Kiev International Institute of Sociology Institute reported the result of 12.5% of public support signaling the ratings of this presidential candidate is steadily growing.

In the heat of the election campaign, information emerges: former head of Yanukovych’s Administration Serhiy Lovochkin and his business partner, Ukrainian oligarch Victor Pinchuk have their own interests in promoting Anatoliy Hrytsenko in the presidential race.

This announcement was the loudest Ukrainian political scandal in the last few years and its impact may severely cripple the level of support this candidate for the presidency currently enjoys.

It should be noted that Mr. Hrytsenko hinders Yulia Tymoshenko and unnerving current President and his staff. Any bad publicity about him will benefit leader of “Batkivshchyna” and is in favor to Poroshenko’s Administration.

Mr. Lovochkin is backing Anatoliy Hrytsenko. What caused such rumors?

The rumors about the possible cooperation between Hrytsenko and Lovochkin originated from a small comment of the latter. “I think that if Hrytsenko is supported by Vakarchuk, Sadovoi, Saakashvili from Amsterdam and if he can unite the “democratic toddlers”, then he has a good chance to win. Presently Tymoshenko is the leader of the race, but Hrytsenko can defeat any opponent in the second ballot” commented the former head of Yanukovych’s Administration.

This sudden announcement from usually non-public and terse Serhiy Lovochkin was considered by many as indirect evidence of his support and act of promotion for Hrytsenko. The term “Lovochkin-Pinchuk Project” was immediately coined to label Anatoliy Hrytsenko’s presidential campaign.

The political expert Mikhail Chaplyga is confident that Hrytsenko’s true purpose is to receive publicity during the presidential elections and then rush into the upcoming parliamentary elections aiming to plant his subordinates into the Ukrainian parliament.

“To play this game, he needs to compromise. It’s not a fact that Pinchuk can give him money, but he can give him people he wants to bring into the parliament and whom he has already selected. Hrytsenko may have his uses here. And Lovochkin is a person who prefers to put eggs in different baskets. It is quite possible that already being a partner of Pinchuk in a number of other projects, he will be present here too.” stated Mr. Chaplyga.

Similar information was posted by Chaplyga’s good friend, journalist Alexander Dubinsky as part of his Facebook video blog with an option “paid advertisement” enabled.

“Lovochkin’s interview in RBC (RosBiznesKonsalting), where he describes the virtues of the “forever-failing” presidential candidate Anatoly Hrytsenko, I personally regard as a declaration of political investment,” Dubinsky said.

Hrytsenko claims that his own wife is financing his campaign

The headquarters of the “Civil Position” party denies information about any possible collaboration with Lovochkin and Pinchuk.

Anatoly Hrytsenko noted that there are two sources of his funding. “The first is from the state, but we do not receive it. There is an inter-election period and there is an electoral period, so these are two different stories about financing,” he said.

According to Mr. Hrytsenko, heads of the regional and local organizations of “Civil Position” never received any salary and are working as volunteers. According to him the overwhelming numbers of people, except for a few technical workers, who work every day do not receive wages, but rather make their own contributions to the cause.

“All of my funding has been declared. I am a reserve Colonel, so I have a pension, which is officially declared. I also work as an Associate Professor, not full-time, but as an Associate Professor in the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and get a salary there, but rather a small one – 1000-1500 hryvnia. In this situation, I am not the “financial” engine of our family. My wife Yulia Mostovaya who is the editor-in-chief of “Mirror weekly” has much more significant income” – emphasized Hrytsenko, who is also the former Minister of defense of Ukraine.

Arguing about the possibility of Lovochkin financing “Civil Position”, Hrytsenko strongly claimed that: “This is complete nonsense. Similarly, we can say that Tymoshenko’s is backed by Lovochkin’s money because in his comments he said that the Tymoshenko is the leader of the race”.

However, Dmitry Dobrodomov, who joined forces with Anatoly Hrytsenko in this election campaign, is sure that Presidential Administration is surely involved.

“For reasonable people, any compliment from the odious representative of Yanukovych’s regime, from the person who should be in jail, is a minus. Why Lovochkin said that is a good question. Perhaps it is because he is linked with current President’s Administration, which is in a panic because of the growing of ratings and ongoing processes of unification.”

There is quite a lot of versions concerning Hrytsenko’s party sources of funding, but the actual sponsor of the ex-Minister of defense will be revealed sooner or later.

That is not the problem. The real problem is a short memory of Ukrainian voters that allows Hrytsenko again and again to assume the role of “fresh and promising candidate”.

Does anyone remember Hrytsenko’s successes or failures during his duty as the Minister of defense? Or who will discuss his previous failure at the elections? A little tinkering with public appearance is enough — long lives the new attempt to claim the presidential chair, pushing away Poroshenko, Tymoshenko and a dozen other candidates.
